Local mothers can now benefit from new expertise, with physiotherapist Cara Peake joining forces with Nick Hose Fitness and reestablishing the Mums and Bubs Class.
Cara said there were significant advantages of being fit, strong and well when you became a mother and she was excited to offer the class in Camperdown.
“It’s really important that women maintain their strength during pregnancy. If they don’t do anything for nine months, it can be really hard when their baby arrives,” she said.
“Mothers have to pick up their baby, carry their baby, bend over the bath and it’s super physical so maintaining fitness during the pregnancy is a real advantage.”
Cara said her experience as a physiotherapist and working with new and expectant mothers one-on-one in previous roles provided her with a special set of skills.
“I find that mothers can be quite fearful around what exercise they should and shouldn’t do, so it’s about giving them the right information so that they can train without risk of injury or putting their pregnancy at risk. We want mums to feel confident and stay strong,” she said.
“A strong pelvic floor is obviously important, but so is upper body strength and general fitness. We want to work on overall strength without putting mum or bub in any danger.”
Gym owner Nick Hose said the Mums and Bubs Class had been on hiatus for quite some time and he was excited that Cara’s skill set had paved the way for its return.
“There are so many physical changes that happen throughout, and after, a pregnancy, and to get the right advice is really important,” he said.
“As a physiotherapist, Cara is an essential service so we are pleased to announce our new and improved Mums and Bubs Classes will start indoors from next week.
“We will also be utilising Cara’s skills to add even more value to our Ladies Only Circuit periodically and throughout various other classes in our group timetable.”
Mums and Bubs will begin on Tuesday, June 9 and be held every Tuesday and Friday after that from 11.30am for 45 minutes.
